What is breathwork?
Breathwork is a practice that involves conscious control and manipulation of breathing patterns to promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Through various breathing techniques, individuals can influence their physiological responses, calm the nervous system, release tension, and access deeper states of relaxation and mindfulness.
What are the different kinds of breathwork?
The are many methods and different practices. Too many to list them here. The ones that we are introducing at the retreats are as follows:
Functional breathing
This involves techniques and exercises aimed at improving breathing efficiency and effectiveness for various activities and health benefits. It focuses on optimizing breathing patterns to enhance oxygen delivery, reduce stress, improve posture, and support overall well-being. This type of training includes practices such as diaphragmatic breathing, nasal breathing, postural alignment exercises, breath-holding techniques, and integration with movement.
Pranayama
Pranayama, an ancient practice, serves as the foundational basis for all breathwork in yoga. Rooted in breath control and regulation, it encompasses various techniques aimed at cultivating awareness, relaxation, and energy in both body and mind. With an emphasis on conscious breathing patterns such as deep, rhythmic breathing, alternate nostril breathing, and breath retention, pranayama seeks to harmonize the breath, calm the mind, and enhance physical and mental well-being.
Freediving exercises
These are specifically designed for improving our diving capacity. This could be equalisation exercises, hypoxic or CO2 training, relaxation exercises or working with lung capacity.
Breathwork Flows
These are guided experiential sessions. You are taken through a series of breathing flows combining deep breathing are breath holds. The aim is to regulate the nervous system and achieve a deep state of relaxation.
